Adrienne Forstner-Barthell – MD, FACS, FASCRS

Colon and Rectal Surgeon

Dr. Forstner is a board-certified colon and rectal surgeon, who founded a thriving female colon and rectal practice after returning to the Valley after specialized training in 2006. She spent most of her career focused on anorectal as well as robotic and laparoscopic or minimally invasive surgical approaches to cancer. She helped to bring to the valley a revolutionary minimally invasive approach to rectal cancer resection, called Transanal Endoscopic Microsurgery. She now focuses just on diagnostic and screening colonoscopies and treats all forms of benign colon and anorectal disease including anal pain, nutrition/IBS issues, diverticulitis, hemorrhoids, fissure, fistulas, fecal incontinence, rectocele, prolapse and constipation. She continues to pursue cutting edge approaches to issues such as the sacral nerve stimulator for fecal incontinence. She is currently embarking on certification as a medical acupuncturist from the Helms Institute to bring this approach to complex gut problems as well.

WHAT PATIENTS SAY!

I was referred to Dr Barthell by a friend and unfortunately we had opposite experiences. I went to Dr Barthell due to a fissure. The appointment was very rushed. You literally have until the person in the next room is undressed to get all of your concerns out. The walls are very thin and you hear "get undressed I'll be right back". I opted for fissure surgery and on one of my follow up visits, I had re torn the fissure. The tone and way I was spoken to, I was made to feel as though I tore myself intentionally, as ridiculous as that sounds. "You went and tore yourself again, now we have to start over, since it is worse than before you first came in." When I was in the office, I didn't feel listened to. It felt more like the Dr couldn't wait for me to stop talking, so she could tell me what she was going to do.

Dr. Forstner-Barthell is an AMAZING doctor. There is no one else who I would trust for my care. We found a large mass on my ascending colon that could not be removed via colonoscopy so I had to have surgery. Dr. Forstner-Barthell was with me every step of the way. She took her time in listening to all of my questions and was available any time I needed her. Every facility and staff that I came into contact with had nothing but praise for Dr. Forstner-Barthell. We caught the mass early and no cancer. I will be a life long patient of Dr. Forstner-Barthell. She saved my life. I am grateful to and for her. Thank you Dr. Forstner-Barthell!!!
